“…strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith…” -Acts 14:22
The month of September was a power packed month. I thought would give you an inside look at my travels among our churches. First, New Hope Christian Community in Round Lake, IL:
I spoke the week before the Grand Opening in their new building. To see this young church busting at the seams and to have so many people come up to Mary and I thanking us for helping the church get started, for providing the financing for them to purchase the building and also for walking with them in their capital fundraising campaign made me feel proud of the how our whole Converge team has been serving this new church.
Second I preached at Compassion Baptist Church in Chicago (formerly Merrill Avenue Baptist Church). This was the first time I preached there since Pastor Austin Smith went to be with the Lord. Even though the church is still grieving it is healthy and strong. I was so encouraged how the Deacons and Associate Ministers are leading the church forward in the midst of the pain. Again we were over whelmed with thank yous and words of encouragement as our team has spent over hundred man hours in finding them their next pastor.
Third, I taught FirstSteps for Planting a Missional Church with Pastor Darryn Scheske at Heartland Church. We had 32 participants whose eyes were filled in faith as they seek to see new churches established throughout our region. One of the attendees wrote us “I think future attendees should come with an open heart and mind, knowing they are part of one of the best church planting networks in the country!”
Fourth, I worshiped at Radiate Church that weekend (a six month old church) where I heard a great sermon by young leader, Justin Bender, and was allowed to witness the baptism of 5 individuals who have surrender their lives to Jesus. Again so many people came to me and said “Thank you for believing in us!”
Finally, I spent the weekend in Galesburg, IL with Bethel Baptist Church preaching and leading an evangelism workshop. Pastor Lee Johnson, wrote, “Thank you Gary … The seminar on Spiritual Conversations was well done and effective in the sense that it gave us all a tool and the hope that we really can do this.”
I consider it an honor to be your ministry partner, representing you as I travel among both our historic and new churches encouraging them in the mission of Jesus. Be encouraged – God is going great things through your gifts and your prayers!
Looking forward to seeing you at Connect 2013!
