Converge MidAmerica Michigan Updates

By Jim Lacy

New Pastor Welcomed
Grace Memorial Baptist Church of Muskegon, MI has unanimously called Jeff Helbert of Grand Rapids as their new senior pastor.  A unique aspect of this call (which took place early in January) is that Pastor Jeff filled the pulpit for a full month before the vote.  He preached on “7 Biblical Ways to Relate to a Pastor” at his installation service.  Previously Jeff served as the pastor of City View Church in Grand Rapids.

Converge MidAmerica wants to express thanks to Pastor Roy Clark who served Grace in 2015 as interim pastor.  Pastor Clark, at age 86, is a great example of continuing to serve the Lord at this point in his life!

Shiloh Community Church of Orleans, MI
Congratulations to Pastor Shane Prewitt and Shiloh CC (joined CMA last year) on adding a 4th service.  In addition to their Saturday evening and two Sun. morning services, they now are holding services in the neighboring city of Greenville.

Ordination Council Recommendation to The Road Church in Fenton, MI
On Jan. 16, an ordination council recommended to The Road Community Church (Pastor Chris Viterelli) that Gordon Fry be ordained.  The Greater Detroit area Converge pastors that were on the council included Chris Viterelli, Dave Collins (Lifepoint Church- Ann Arbor), Tim Terhune (Faith Bible- Livonia), Jonathan Swift (Christ Community- Dearborn), and others.

Pastor Coaching Groups
Four Michigan pastors coaching groups have been meeting in Northern Michigan, Greater Detroit, Muskgeon, and North Grand Rapids.  Subjects discussed include:

  • Dealing with ministry stress
  • Conflict resolution
  • Helping our people distinguish between “absolutes, convictions, and preferences” (from Romans 14)
  • Revisiting Dr. JI Packer’s classic study of KNOWING GOD

Thanks Expressed to Pastor Norm Byers, MI Church Planting Director
Norm, and his wife Brenda, rock!  God is doing great things through them in planting new churches.

“Finally, brothers, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
